Where the Words Come From – Experiences of Vocal Ministry in Meeting for Worship

What is happening when we speak (or sing) in a meeting for worship? How do we tell whether or not it is the right thing to do? Has that changed over time? How much does our mind, or intellect or ego, or heart and emotions play a role in deciding when to speak or what to say? Do other people in my meeting seem to have the same understanding as I do? Does that cause tension?

Explore these and other questions in a series of four monthly Zoom conversations beginning in Second Month, 2023. Conversations will be held on the 3rd Seventh Day at 10 AM EST: 2/18, 3/18, 4/15, and 5/20. Contact Lloyd Lee Wilson at [email protected] to register and receive the Zoom link; participation will be limited to the number that will fit on a single Zoom screen. Participation is free.

A Spirituality of Subtraction – The Root of Quaker Simplicity

We’ve all heard about Quaker “simplicity” – but what
is it really? A practice of doing without because that feels good? An attitude of being frugal in all things? A way of living lightly on the earth? A discipline of focus on one’s connection to the divine? A Quaker value or a testimony about some spiritual truth on which Quakers all agree? Or something else entirely?

Explore these and other questions in a series of four monthly Zoom conversations beginning in Second Month, 2023. Conversations will be held on the 4th Seventh Day at 10 AM EST: 2/25, 3/25, 4/22, and 5/27.
