Sincere thanks to all who contributed so generously to the Solar+ Project. Your gifts are truly long term gifts to Meeting, to low income families in our community, and good stewardship of our planet.

Smile when you see the sun shining on New Garden Friends Meeting. Our Duke Energy cost of electricity has been reduced an average of $425 per month since February 2021.

The Solar+ Project included installing a new (30 year) roof on our Meetinghouse, installation of 108 solar panels, and a partnership with Community Housing Solutions to install insulation and weatherization measures saving (est. 20) local low income families up to 25% of their energy bills.

Our solar panels connected to the grid in January, 2021. Unfortunately, due to Covid restrictions, this event could not be celebrated with a party worthy of the accomplishment / worthy of the generous contributions by so many New Garden Friends.

A total of $119,074 was received for the project including;

  • $78,074 Pledged Funds
  • $10,000 Anonymous Donation for Roofing
  • $1,000 Proceeds from the Seeger Concert (2019) “Songs of Hope & Courage: Celebrating Pete Seeger’s Legacy” with artists Annie Patterson and Mary Witt.
  • $30, 000 Duke Power Rebate

The numbers below represent cost of electricity for the Meetinghouse, not including exterior grounds.

Sincere thanks from the Solar+ Project team to all who contributed so generously to the success of this project!
