The vigil continues for the tragic killing of a homeless unarmed mentally ill man named Marcus Smith at the hands of Greensboro police September 8th, 2018. The public is invited to join as we ask for justice and truth in law enforcement. We will continue every Monday from 12-1 p.m. on Washington St. downtown until the City Council settles his family’s lawsuit, accountability is acknowledged, even a possible apology. Several from NGFM are there weekly; join us and we will give you a sign to hold as we stand for our values. A bonus is the new friends you may make in the gathering!
The two latest developments: a petition sent to the Federal Department of Justice to look into Greensboro Police training and excessive force; and a recording of stories at Shiloh Baptist Church, told by citizens who have been intimidated and harmed by our police, showing that Marcus Smith’s case was not an isolated incident.
