Head of the Ramallah Friends School Will Speak at Jamestown Friends July 6, 2022 / 7:00 p.m.

Friends United Meeting is sponsoring a visit in N.C. (July 5 – 10) by the new head of the Ramallah Friends School, Rania Maayeh. In 2021, Rania Maayeh was appointed by Friends United Meeting to be the head of the Ramallah Friends School, a pre-K to 12th grade co-educational Quaker school in Ramallah, Palestine. Serving 1,500 students, the School was founded in 1869 as a training institute for girls during Ottoman Turkish rule when opportunities for girls’ education was limited. A boys school was founded in 1901, and the two campuses now comprise the united Friends School, currently under Israeli military occupation. Rania will share in a public meeting at Jamestown Friends Meeting, 509 Guilford Rd., Jamestown, at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, July 6. She will speak about the work of the Ramallah Friends School, its role in fostering Palestinian leadership imbued with Quaker values, and the challenges of operating a school under the present political situation.
