It has been almost a year since you graciously and righteously signed on to the attached letter urging Greensboro Council Members to endorse the ICAN Cities Appeal supporting the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. This call for mutual nuclear disarmament remains as urgent today, and we have not been idle.
The municipalities of Green Level, Carrboro, Durham, Chapel Hill have since unanimously signed on, and the Resolution is or will soon be under consideration in nine other places in the Piedmont. Stephanie Hassan, a NC Peace Action intern, is helping organize in Greensboro.
The letter which you signed has been updated and the list of reason has been changed to a formal Resolution which councils have preferred.
With the support of Durham signing the Resolution, we felt it was time to move forward in Greensboro. We are contacting Yvonne Johnson to arrange a meeting, and we would like to have a group of 6-10 people to organize an effective campaign here.
Can you enlist someone in your organization to join this group? It will involve several zoom meetings to get people together to contact Council members and, if possible, be present in support. Please let me know if you or someone in your group can join a zoom meeting on Tuesday, May 2 at 5 pm or future meetings. And thank you again for your support thus far. It will be great if we can complete this campaign in the next month or so.
