Thursday, October 7, 6 – 8 p.m. at Guilford College Farm / Many Afghans fought alongside and actively helped US soldiers during the decades-long war in Afghanistan. They are now fleeing the resulting turmoil as the US pulled troops from Afghanistan. Some of these refugees are now arriving in Greensboro, having lost nearly everything except their courage, dignity, and hope. North Carolina African Service Coalition (NCASC) and all those who partner with them will do more than help these families survive; we will help them live fulfilling and flourishing lives.

In response to this urgent situation, the some members of New Garden Friends Meeting are proposing to raise money through various events to assist with the essential needs of our new North Carolinians. As part of this over-arching effort, Cathy Hamilton of NGFM and Guilford College faculty member Lavon Williams are organizing an outdoor musical concert for members of the Greensboro community to enjoy, Thursday, Oct 7 from 6 – 8 p.m. on the grounds of the Guilford College Farm. The goal of our fundraising proposal is to assist with the initial housing needs such as new beds, home furnishings, rent, personal items, and groceries of our immediate arrivals.

We are suggesting a $25 per person donation and are limiting this event to 50 guests. Guests are asked to bring their own chairs and may bring their own refreshments. We will adhere to Guilford College’s mandate for social distancing when outdoors. We ask guests to wear their masks at any time when not seated. Volunteers are needed to assist with parking guidance and direct seating to ensure everyone’s enjoyment and safety.
