Adult Forum with George Lakey

March 17 @ 9:45 am - 10:45 am

“How we can use the Quaker legacy of direct action campaigning to meet today’s turbulent America.” George Lakey will share good news from Quaker history and his own experience with nonviolence. Recently retired from teaching at Swarthmore College, George was first arrested in the civil rights movement and most recently in 2018 in the Power Local Green Jobs campaign.  His new book, the tenth, is “How We Win: A Guide to Nonviolent Direct Action Campaigning.”  He has led over 1500 workshops on five continents and co-founded Earth Quaker Action Team (EQAT.org).  He is a member of Central Philadelphia Monthly Meeting, which considers this tour part of his ministry.

Martin Luther King’s daughter said this about the new book; George Lakey’s * Manual for Direct Action *was literally a life-saver for many during the height of the struggle for Black freedom and dignity in the 1960s.  *How We Win * has arrived to us at another key moment in our human journey. . — *Rev. Dr. Bernice A. King, CEO of the Martin Luther King, Jr., Center for Nonviolent Social Change.
