Weekly metrics by the CDC are still updated every Thursday by 8 pm ET at CDC.gov or (800-CDC-INFO). They now have a quarantine calculator  at the same site to help people determine how long to isolate if they have a positive Covid test or are exposed to someone who has Covid.  In Guilford County, community level risk of Covid transmission is Medium, with cases reported to the NC HHS stable , but hospitalizations  and early warning indicators( like wastewater viral particle numbers)  continuing  to increase gradually. Forsyth County’s Covid Community level is High. The NC Health and Human Services Dashboard is updated weekly on Wednesdays.

Vaccines are the best protection against serious COVID disease, hospitalization, and death. The FDA has now authorized the administration of a second COVID booster dose for those over age 50 and individuals 12 or older with an immuno-compromising condition. A first booster has now been endorsed by the CDC for those in the 5-11 age group , as long as at least 5 months since the primary series was completed. The FDA is meeting today to discuss Moderna and Pfizer  Covid vaccine approval for children in the 6 month to 5 year old age group. It is anticipated that the proper authorization from both the FDA and CDC could be obtained by the end of this week with vaccines available as soon as next week.
