I wish our country’s history wasn’t tainted with slavery, Jim Crow, lynching, white privilege, etc. Wouldn’t it be great if we could just make those things go away by leaving the ugly part of our history out of school curriculum and never talking about any of that again? There are those in our country who believe we should not teach about racism because it might make our youth unpatriotic or make some feel ashamed of their whiteness.

The next Guilford County School Board meeting will be held at 6 p.m., Tuesday, September 14 at 712 N Eugene Street, Greensboro. If you feel led to support truthful teaching of our racial history, you are welcome to join others to either speak inside at the meeting or stand outside with signs that send that message to our school board. If you plan to speak, please check Guilford County Board of Education website for rules to sign up in advance.
