Kendi notes that because the ideology of individualism is only granted to white people, it allows us to see negative behavior by any Black person as proof of what is wrong with Black people, while negative behavior by any white person only proves what is wrong with that individual person.” (p.35)
She later states, “There are consistent, observable patterns that apply to all of us [white people], and we need to be willing to look at these patterns. . . One day, we may treat every person as a unique individual, but it is precisely because that day is not here that the insistence on individualism is so pernicious.” (p. 36)
