Drew Lanham, Alumni Distinguished Professor of Wildlife Ecology at Clemson University, will give a talk entitled “Loving the Land — The Heart’s Way Forward to Nurturing Nature in the Anthropocene.” An avid birder, Drew teaches wildlife biology and ecology at Clemson, but he’s also a fabulous creative nonfiction writer, most recently of a great article in Orion about the Carolina Parakeet as well as a beautiful memoir called The Home Place: Memoirs of a Colored Man’s Love Affair with Nature). He has also written about being an African-American person in the nature-writing and ecology fields, and you can see him in a brief video called “Rules for the Black Birder.” A member of the national board of directors for the Audubon Society, Drew has also appeared in an episode of “Expeditions with Patrick McMillan.”
