NCFF (North Carolina Fellowship of Friends) met on August 20, 2022 for an Annual Meeting with the theme “Let Your Life Speak.” 47 attended either in person at Jamestown Meeting or via Zoom. Dr. Adrienne Israel, Professor Emerita of History at Guilford College, spoke about her Underground Railroad research and Dr. Meredeth Summers, Chief of Staff and Secretary to the Board at Guilford College, provided music virtually with her choir.
There were worship sharing groups and workshops, reports from Friends, NCFF Working Groups and other Friends organizations. Friends Peace Teams requested that NCFF create a minute expressing acknowledgment of our yearly meeting’s complicity with “forced assimilation of Native children by operating Quaker Indigenous Boarding Schools,” if NCYM was involved. (This request was referred to the Anti-racism Working Group to research.) There were announcements of activities to celebrate the 350th anniversary of Quakers in North Carolina this year.
It was an informative and enjoyable day among Friends. And the next NCFF meeting will take place on November 12, 2022 at New Garden. Stay tuned for more details. Hope you will join us!
