Would you like to join a team that makes a big difference in the lives of others and strengthens your relationships with other Friends? If so, please join the NGFM Meals on Wheels Team. This is a project initiated by the Peace and Social Concerns Committee. Other faith communities in Greensboro have teams, and this is a great time for New Garden Friends Meeting to get on board!

If you would like to volunteer, all you need to do is attend a brief training session, submit information for a background check (required of all Meals on Wheels volunteers) and donate two hours per month to a food delivery route with a partner from New Garden Friends Meeting.

Meals on Wheels provides nutritious meals to home bound seniors who are unable to obtain and prepare meals for themselves. In many cases, these seniors do not have other daily social contacts or other reliable sources of food.

Senior Resources of Guilford, located at 1401 Benjamin Parkway, organizes the training and Meals on Wheels services. Volunteers and their partners (a driver and a food delivery person) show up at 9 a.m. on their designated day, and containers of food and drinks for 13-15 recipients are loaded into their cars. Senior Resources provides volunteers with an audio-visual tablet that directs them to the recipients’ homes, which are assigned according to neighborhoods.

Join the NGFM team if you would like to brighten someone’s day, as well as your own. Please contact Jane Perrin of the Peace and Social Concerns Committee if you have questions or want to join the team..The Meals on Wheels training session will be scheduled in early January.
