Karen Porter, board member and past Clerk for Friends House Moscow, and a member of Chapel Hill Friends Meeting, will talk about Quaker efforts in the Russian Federation at the Adult Forum. Quakers, though few in number in Russia, coordinate many projects that benefit refugees, prisoners, orphanage residents, and families. Although military service is required for individuals, Russian law provides for conscientious objection; and Friends House Moscow supports education about alternative service. Friends House Moscow also sponsors international Alternatives to Violence Project programs in Russia and Ukraine. See www.friendshousemoscow.org.
