Following approval by Monthly Meeting, a task force is being created to study racial diversity at New Garden Friends Meeting and eventually make recommendations on how to increase diversity in worship, religious education programs, and other activities. The Diversity Task Force will begin in early February and conclude its work by December. If Starbucks is offering pumpkin spice flavorings, it’s time to start thinking about the (day called) Hallowe’en graveyard tour! Last year more than a dozen New Gardeners dressed up and represented some of the fascinating people interred in our cemetery, and I almost remembered to stop at each of their graves (Sorry, “Mary Nicholson”!). Family Camp is this weekend! We are scheduled to arrive at 5 p.m. on Friday and enjoy a “pitch-in” meal together. New Garden Friends Meeting Social Concerns Committee provides small grants to organizations for projects addressing priority issues through our Broader Concerns budget. Priorities for 2018, drawn from a Fall 2017 survey of New Gardeners include: peace and conflict prevention/resolution; poverty, homelessness, and hunger; youth engagement; environment and clean energy; social, racial, and economic justice and refugee crisis and immigrant rights.
