Volunteers Needed for Greensboro Urban Ministry Food Drive / October 18

It is time to sign up to participate in the next semi-annual Greensboro Urban Ministries’ food drive. Again, NGFM is assigned to the Harris Teeter at 701 Francis King Street, across the street from our meeting house on Friday, October 18. Please consider signing up for one of the 2-hour time slots. You will be paired with at least one other New Gardener. This event is a major resource for replenishing the food pantry, and…

We Have a New Refugee Family

This time we will be working with Starmount Presbyterian! We have not been assigned a particular family yet, so stay tuned for more details. If you would like to help, please contact Cindy Knul at 336-255-1968 or email her at: ([email protected]). We particularly need someone with a truck to help us take our donations to the family’s new home. This is a great opportunity to help a family in need, make a new friend and…

Results from Food Drive

1,472 lbs. of food was collected on Friday, April 5 by soggy, but determined New Gardeners! Thanks go to Pat Adelberger, Nancy Walker, Danny Finnegan, Molly Maynard, Carol Cothern, Rick Tunkel, Dianne Lytle, Sara White, John Farmer, Judy Haughee-Bartlett, and Janet Inmon, who didn’t let a constant spring drizzle keep from helping to re-stock the pantry shelves at Greensboro Urban Ministries.

Help Us Welcome a Refugee Family From Syria

A new family of 4 is coming to our community. They are related to several of the families we previously resettled, so it will be a joyful reunion for sure! We need your donations of gently used items to help make the family feel comfortable and welcome. If you can help, contact Cindy Knul or call 336-255-1968. Donations can be brought to the Meeting House and left in Norvell Hall by the entry door to the kitchen.…

Racial Diversity Task Force Starting Early February

Following approval by Monthly Meeting, a task force is being created to study racial diversity at New Garden Friends Meeting and eventually make recommendations on how to increase diversity in worship, religious education programs, and other activities. The Diversity Task Force will begin in early February and conclude its work by December. If you are interested in exploring how to make our Meeting a truly welcoming place, please contact Cathie Holcombe or Bill McNeil.

New Garden Cemetery Tour with Max Carter

Halloween Graveyard Tour / October 31

8:00 p.m. / New Garden Friends Meeting Graveyard. New Garden Friends Meeting’s annual Hallowe’en lantern tour of its historic graveyard is led by retired professor of Quaker Studies, Max L. Carter, and will include occasional “interpreters” of some of the people whose graves will be visited. Included on the tour will be stories of early settlement in the 1700s; the Revolutionary War skirmishes fought around the graveyard; the Underground Railroad; famous industrialists, reformers, and educators;…

Actors needed for October 31 / Opportunities to serve!

If Starbucks is offering pumpkin spice flavorings, it’s time to start thinking about the (day called) Hallowe’en graveyard tour! Last year more than a dozen New Gardeners dressed up and represented some of the fascinating people interred in our cemetery, and I almost remembered to stop at each of their graves (Sorry, “Mary Nicholson”!). One hundred people from around the community enjoyed the lantern-lit tour. Let me know if you’d like to reprise a role…
