Cases of COVID , hospitalizations and percent positive COVID tests in NC have significantly increased in the last week, believed to be due to the more infectious Delta variant. These increases are more prominent in NC counties with relatively low vaccination rates, primarily in the southeastern and southwestern parts of our state. Vaccination numbers did not change much with NC now inching up to 43% of the total population being vaccinated These figures are drawn from the NC Health Dept. Needed: Participants for Monthly Meal for Homeless / June 2021

On the 1st Tuesday of each month, New Gardeners serve a meal at Greensboro Urban Ministries’ Weaver House, a shelter for homeless adults. The meal consists of “Cowboy Stew”, a turkey ham sandwich with condiments, assorted home-baked desserts, and iced tea. We need a few more stew preparers and servers. Cases of COVID, hospitalizations and percent positive COVID tests in NC have decreased and stayed stable at low levels this week. Vaccination numbers inched up with NC having 42% of the total population and 79% of persons age 65 years and older now fully vaccinated.
