Volunteers Needed for Carry-In Meal / February 2023

Hi Friends! We are gathering for monthly carry in meals again! Who does not look forward to those Sundays of sharing fellowship with friends while eating a potluck meal? For sure we will have baked chicken, salad, warm veggie dishes, bread, cakes and pies! Who will bring mac and cheese? bean soup? brownies? Maybe Max will bring hot dogs? If you are smiling and nodding your head you also know that it takes hospitality volunteers…

Robin Wall Kimmerer to speak at Guilford College, March 1, 2023

Recent MacArthur Fellow Robin Wall Kimmerer will be giving a public lecture at Guilford on Wednesday, March 1 at 4:00 p.m. in Dana Auditorium. Kimmerer’s book, Braiding Sweetgrass, has been the College’s common read this year for first-year students, and we are very excited to have the opportunity to bring this amazing plant ecologist and writer to Guilford. Kimmerer’s writing, teaching, and research blends traditional ecological knowledge from her Native American heritage with contemporary science.…

Dear Friends, Many of you know that I’ve been involved in a documentary film project about Rosenwald Schools for a (very) long time. Several of you have generously supported the non-profit that Jere Snyder and I started (Longleaf Productions) to do this work. Now, at long last, we have something to show for it. “Unlocking the Doors of Opportunity / The Rosenwald Schools of North Carolina” was screened on Saturday, Feb. 4, at the High…

Visits may last 10 to 30 minutes, depending on the needs of the individual. All are welcome! When: February…

All God’s Children Got a Place in the Choir / February 2023

Hello, New Gardeners, I hope you’ve been enjoying having the choir back singing again as much as we’ve enjoyed singing for you. I’d like to ask you to take a moment and consider joining our choir. We always welcome more voices and are particularly in need of male voices. Reading music is certainly beneficial, but not mandatory since you can learn your part by rote during our rehearsals. Singing in the choir is great way…

Notes from Pastor Ashley / February 8, 2023

Dear Friends, I met with the Transition Team this past week, and I am excited about our work together. I have also realized that not everyone knows what the Transition Team is or what their work is. The Transition Team will go through five focus points—heritage, mission, leadership, connections, and future—to give the meeting a clear sense of what it wants in a settled pastor. (For more information on each of these focus points, see…
