Notes from Pastor Ashley / January 4, 2023

Dear Friends, Happy New Year! This is a time for new beginnings and resolutions. I am looking forward to all of the things we will do together at New Garden Friends in 2023. In particular, I am excited to start work with the Transition Team. I will be meeting with them this week to finish up our orientation, and then we will begin working on the first focus point of the process, Heritage. This focus…

Challenging Racism / January 4, 2023

I am sure that many of you join me in gratitude to Kate Seel for her informative weekly articles in the newsletter. I personally learned a lot from her reflections and appreciated her “non-preachy” style of relaying information. It is my hope that Kate may feel led to return to penning this article after her new advocacy duties are no longer as demanding. In the meantime, I will try to follow in Kate’s footsteps. If…

Portable Power Supply / January 5, 2023

During a recent graveside memorial, it was noted that most friends in attendance could not hear the service. Recently, New Garden received an anonymous donation of $450 to purchase a portable lithium battery power supply to remedy that problem. This power supply will enable us to set up portable loud speakers in the cemetery for memorial services, and will also be useful in other applications. Sincere thanks from the Tech team.

The space between a solar panel and the roof makes a perfect location for squirrels to build a dry nest, safely hidden from predators. Although they are arguably the most adorable of the rodent family, squirrels will chew on absolutely anything, and they find the insulation on electrical wires especially tasty. The exposed wires can short circuit and cause a fire hazard. Not to mention, a squirrel’s nest makes perfect fire tinder. Last week, our…
